Our Story
Sometimes the most important moments in life begin with something small, like a single photo that unexpectedly changes everything.
George first saw Krista in February of 2020 after a mutual friend posted a photo from a night out on Facebook. Something about her immediately caught his attention. Curious to know who she was, he asked their mutual friends about her. From that moment on, he knew he wanted to meet her. He just didn’t want it to feel like a setup.
A few months later, right after COVID restrictions had started to lift, the opportunity finally came. At the time most people were still only spending time within their small circles of friends. A mutual friend invited Krista over for a small backyard BBQ, and George and his friend came up with a plan so their meeting would not look like it had been arranged. George would stop by earlier in the day to help install an outlet in the garage, and after the work was done he would casually be invited to stay for dinner.
That evening George and Krista met for the first time.
Everything went well, but George walked away thinking Krista was not really interested in him. Two weeks went by and he did not think much more about it. Then one day he received a call from a friend asking what he was doing that night. George told him he had plans to go to another friend’s house for dinner.
His friend quickly replied, “You need to come over. Krista is here.”
George laughed and said, “Krista is not into me.”
His friend responded, “Really? Then why is she all dressed up like she was expecting you to be here?”
That was all it took.
George changed his plans and went over. What he thought would be just another night turned out to be the moment their story truly began.
Not long after, George gave Krista his number, and what began as a simple introduction quickly turned into a summer filled with unforgettable moments. Their first kiss came in early June, followed by long summer days on the boat, spontaneous trips to Northport, visits to wineries on the North Fork, and countless nights talking and laughing together.
One of the most memorable days of that first summer was the Fourth of July, when George and Krista spent the entire day on the boat from morning until midnight. Everything about that day felt perfect. The sunset, the fireworks, the moon rising over the water, and even the color of the moon that night made it feel like a moment that was meant just for them.
Their summer together quickly filled with unforgettable moments on the water, including one afternoon when they were resting their eyes in the cabin of the boat and didn’t realize the anchor had broken loose. When George stepped outside, he discovered they had quietly drifted all the way into someone’s backyard along the Connetquot River.
One of the most meaningful parts of their journey together was watching the bond grow between George and Krista’s daughter, Gabriella. As their lives began to blend together, the three of them started building something that truly felt like family. They shared holidays, dinners at home, trips, and the everyday moments that matter just as much as the big ones.
By August of that first summer, Krista told George she loved him. Lying together at home, it was a moment George will never forget. From there their relationship only grew stronger with time as they built traditions, traveled together, and supported each other through life’s many moments.
What started with a photo on Facebook and a carefully planned “not a setup” BBQ turned into something neither of them could have imagined.
And it was only the beginning.
The Proposal
The idea to propose came to George in a very ordinary moment. One day while he was home bottom painting the boat and getting it ready for the season, the thought suddenly hit him. He wanted to ask Krista to marry him in Greece.
They were already planning a trip there to surprise George’s mom for her birthday, and the idea of proposing somewhere so meaningful felt perfect. The first person George shared the idea with was Gabriella. He called her outside and asked what she thought about him asking her mom to marry him. Gabriella’s excitement made the moment even more special, and from that point forward she was part of the plan.
Next came something George was a little more nervous about, telling Krista’s mom. George jokingly told Gabriella that they were not going to ask for Krista’s hand in marriage. They were simply going to tell her that he was planning to ask Krista to marry him in Greece. The two of them went together to share the news just before leaving for the trip. All the worry turned out to be unnecessary. Krista’s mom was incredibly happy.
George carried the ring with him for the entire trip overseas. Paranoid about losing it, he kept it on him the entire time until the moment finally came.
Every night while they were in Greece, George quietly told Gabriella that everyone should dress nicely when they went out. If the right moment appeared, that would be the night he asked her mom.
Then, four years after their story first began, George finally found the moment he had been waiting for. With Gabriella quietly part of the plan from the very beginning, it made the moment even more special.
On July 8, 2024, after dinner, George asked Krista to take a walk with him, just the two of them, down by the water at Mavra Volia in Chios. Standing together along the black volcanic shoreline, George told Krista how much she meant to him and how much their life together meant to him.
Then he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
Krista said yes.
What began with a simple photo and a carefully planned backyard meeting grew into a life filled with love, laughter, family, and unforgettable moments. Now George and Krista cannot wait to continue that story together, forever.
